Jennifer Jones & Norton Simon .........

My blog is not in any kind of order, just what I can remember. One thing I will never forget is being out at Jennifer and Norton Simons Carbon Beach houses 1977 to 1982 time.. (two side by side) in Malibu and him saying to me come into my office lets get to work I went into his office it had only one piece of furniture in it, a big desk nothing hung on the walls all the art was stacked four and five deep around this desk not even a chair. Works by Pierre Bonnard, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Paul Gauguin to name a few... On this huge desk were some papers and a few pictures. One just jumped out at me and I said, "I really like that one". He said good for you one of my favorites".Then I thought that he was going to say from the renaissance period. To my complete surprise .. "Henry Fonda painted it.'YOU KNOW , I MADE MY MONEY IN TOMATOS' "Ripening" was the name of the painting. Who knew that Henry Fonda, who I met at a party in Beverly Hills that I went to with Linda Christian at Jim Backus house, could paint like that... He paid $23K for it and the joke then was, how is the Fonda holding up with the Degas and Aristide Maillol, by the way, he sold the Maillol to Ivan Boesky for $350,000 that he had paid $90,000 for in 1970. I saw the Fonda in his bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel later on in 1990. You can see a little bit of it in this picture that I took it is behind him in his wheelchair ....
