Grace & Harold Robbins - New Year's Eve bash, 1976 ..

WOW! Harold Robbins had the kind of life F. Scott Fitzgerald could only dream about. One example of his grandiose style was his superfanciful New Years's Eve party. He took over the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel. Supposedly there were to be 500 guests, but with friends bringing friends, con artists and crashers, it was closer to 600 which forced waiters to bring in extra tables .. the creme de la creme of Tinseltown was there lots of dignitaries. I arrived with Taryn Power we jetted in for the party from Marbella, Spain she was heiress to Tyrone Power money. We arrived suffering from jet lag. Our round table of ten went like this girl/boy .. Taryn, next to her was General Omar Bradley, Valerie Perrine, Fred MacMurray, Zsa Zsa Gabor , Robert Kelly Smithey, Elke Sommer, Glenn Ford, Phyllis Diller, and Sugar Ray Robinson . I danced with Ann Miller. Lizabeth Scott and I lusted around! Buddy Hacket was funny . Robert Stack, Cesar Romero and Mayor Tom Bradley.. WOW!! Hats, noisemakers, favors, champagne. I kissed Elke Sommer, she was thirty-six, ten years older than me, a German goddess, who painted , she said, "I'm an artist who acts" ! Jack Palance, James Coburn came over to our table to meet the General he was the big star. Everyone wanted to know about my friend actress Madeleine Carroll who was a big star in Hollywood.. Taryn and I took a suite at the hotel to recuperate and hung out in the cabanas by the pool for a few days before we went back to Marbella we met with Taryn's agent, what glamour. Grace Robbins was so very gracious.. Had to have a tux to get in, Harvey Korman he left... Harold said black tie, even Harvey . Grace paid me back with Elke Sommer big time.. Tony Martin sang and Harold had the calendar girls, one for each month of the year... When he was young he lusted for "A diamond wristwatch, a Cadillac and a beautiful woman" He got all that and a fabulous life style , watching the parade whirl by New Years Eve must have given him, satisfaction!
