So, my Jewish art dealer was none other than Herber Kende until he died in 1977 he was from Vienna, Austria he had a Gallery/Auction house in Austria but the Nazis took it over in 1938... So,he opened one up in New York on Madison Avenue.. He was an auctioneer and was big in German expressionists. He liked my collage work. I had a solo exhibit with him. He said that he wanted me around even if we didn't have anything to sell, because people want to meet the artist .. they are CURIOUS !!! So, "your the boss", I said .. He had a great house in Marbella, Spain overlooking the sea in the hills, with a marble lap pool .. Greta Garbo stayed there when she came to Marbella. So, Herbert's art gallery was the best.. He also advised me on what to buy, I bought some Picasso plates he suggested to me, they cost three for nine thousand bucks in 1970's money, I put them on the wall in front of the door as you came into the Marbella apartment they were all white no color. He called my show "SELECTED ARTISTS" and we sold out to Palm Beach money. He sent a chauffeur to pick me up from the Sherry Netherland Hotel ... Some of the guests that signed his book for the show were :
Rauchenberg, Motherwell , Babe Paley, Greta Garbo, Ira Furstenberg, Lauren Bacall, Curt Jurgens, Claudette Colbert, the original and ruthless social dictator Elsa Maxwell: it was first-class the show had an unbelievable mixture of the great and near great: Muchisimas gracias my amigo Herbert Kende never any financial haggling no dramatic wave always a fun time .. such a nice man !!!!
